Formula-based fast food in Cotati?
The Cotati City Council will hold a public hearing Wednesday, Aug. 14, to consider an amendment to the Formula-Based Fast Food Restaurant ordinance. The potential change is sparked by a high vacancy rate in the city’s commercial spaces.
The recommended changes would eliminate regulations pertaining to:
- Caps and equitable distribution (currently capped at 8)
- Limitations on multiple same franchises within the city (currently not allowed)
- Spacing requirements
The ordinance amendments would apply citywide with the exception of the Public Facilities, Commercial and General Industrial zones and certain portions of downtown where outlets are already prohibited.
The city’s cap on fast food restaurants is set at eight, with Burger King, Peet’s, Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Starbucks Coffee and Subway holding five of the permits. The three remaining spots are on Gravenstein Highway west of Highway 101.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting. Comments also can be sent to Assistant City Manager Micah Hinkle at email@example.com.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, in the Cotati City Hall, 201 West Sierra Ave.
