City announces new finance director
The City of Cotati has announced the appointment of Marcia Schnapp as the city’s new Finance Director effective Feb. 19.
“In Cotati, Ms. Schnapp will focus her expertise on operations and functions of the Finance Department, and will help build a financially sustainable future for the City,” said City Manager Dianne Thompson in a press release. “We are fortunate to have Ms. Schnapp join our team.”
The Finance Director is an administrative management level position that oversees all functions and operations of the Finance Department and is responsible for originating, carrying out, reviewing, interpreting and coordinating policies in the administration of diversified accounting and investment operations.
Schnapp has many years as a finance director in both the public and private sectors. Her extensive experience includes working as the finance director for the San Mateo County Harbor District in San Mateo County, as well as many years in banking and securities and working as a controller in the manufacturing industry.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Schnapp earned her B.A. in economics from Mills College in Oakland and an MBA in finance and technology project management from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. In addition, she attended the Pacific Coast Banking School of executive bank management at the University of Washington, graduating from the three-year program with honors.
She is currently pursuing the Certified Public Finance Officers designation from the Government Finance Officers Association.
