Local author gets accolades, is grateful
Guerneville author Daniel Coshnear, who teaches writing workshops in Cotati and Penngrove, was recently featured in The Press Democrat for his new fiction collection, “Occupy & Other Love Stories,” published this fall by Kelly’s Cove Press in Berkeley.
“I feel very grateful to publisher Bart Schneider and Squeak Carnwath (who illustrated the book) and the whole team at Kelly’s Cove for putting such care into the production of it,” says Coshnear.
His first book of stories, “Jobs & Other Preoccupations,” won the 2003 Bay Area Book Reviewer’s Association Award and the Willa Cather Fiction Prize.
Coshnear runs a reading and writing group in Cotati at A Step Up, a group home for men and women with mental illness and substance abuse issues. He also runs a writing group in Penngrove, and is often looking for new students. Drill, Baby, Drill, his writing and editing workshop, was scheduled for November at the Sitting Room but was cancelled due to low enrollment.
“It was aimed at generating new material and learning elements of the craft of fiction and memoir,” says Coshnear.
If you’re interested in joining Coshnear’s upcoming writing group or workshops, check the SOCO Literary Update at socolitupdate.com, the calendar at The Sitting Room or contact him directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
