Cotati bodybuilder Will Dutra.

Native son Will Dutra, 22, won his division (Open Tall) and the overall 2012 California Natural Bodybuilding Championship Aug. 4 at Windsor High School in Windsor. He also earned his professional bodybuilding card with the Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association.

Dutra began competing in the drug-free diet-and-workout program in 2008, when he won teen male at the 2008-2009 California Natural. Other career highlights include first place at the 2009 Silver and Black Muscle Classic in Oakland and a silver medal at the 2009-2010 Natural Universe competition in Hollywood, where the judges moved him from the teen to junior adult class.

Local sports fans may remember Dutra as a young baseball tyro. A brief move to Hawaii in 2006 introduced him to success in weightlifting. Upon his return to Cotati, he continued training with Chris Jantz and Chris Barbour in preparation for bodybuilding competition at age 18.

The three now comprise the professional training team TriadBodybuilding.com. Dutra is also a personal trainer with Todd Gilchrist at Old School Strength in Petaluma and looks forward to building his training business this year and to more competition in 2013.

  2. What a great story. It’s so nice to see what hard work, dedication, determination, sacrifice and focus can do. To see these accomplishments done in a healthy way and not by the aid of drugs and steriods is even more impressive! What an inspiration.

  3. The dedication and strict regimen for such a young man, is truly an inspiration! Will has proven that if you set your mind to it you can achieve! I remember when he was 12 he was a Little League catcher, so we will see what the Petaluma teens will be doing at 22. You have shown them you can accomplish your dreams in any sport.
    Congrats!

  4. Will, I only met you once, but i feel I know you. Hey you look great. Think you have a great future in this lonely sport. Keep up the the hard work man, the sky is the limlt for you.

Who knew…..I’ve known Will for several years now and he always wears sweatpants and loose shirts. Then one day he gets on the stage and boom there he is! What is so wonderful about Will and the rest of the Triad team is that they are humble and caring gentlemen. They lead very simple lives and work very hard at their success. Having trained with Triad myself I have such respect for their team. I am so happy for Will and wish him and his team much success!
