Steve Norwick Memorial Bike Ride, Sunday, July 8
The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, Jill B. Nimble Bike Club and other partners will hold a memorial bicycle ride on Sunday morning to mark the 30 days since Sonoma State University Professor Emeritus Steve Norwick was struck fatally while biking on Petaluma Hill Road.
A bicycling enthusiast, Norwick died on June 19 from his injuries sustained in a hit-and-run crash on June 8.
The ride will begin and end in the parking lot at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, Snyder and Rohnert Park Expressway, Rohnert Park. Participants are instructed to gather at 9:30 a.m. for 10 a.m. departure.
Organizers are planning four guided routes to accommodate a range of rider abilities and interest:
• A 38-mile route led by Tom Helm. For more information click here.
• A 14-mile silent route led by Dawn Silveira
• A 10-mile route led by Vin Hoagland.
• Bicycle Coalition executive director Gary Helfrich also will lead a ride following a route Norwick often followed when leading students on geology excursions. Details will be published as soon as they are available.
