Register on-line for girls’ tech, science, math conference
The 20th annual Expanding Your Horizons Conference for 7th and 8th grade girls is being held Saturday, April 14, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Sonoma State University. The $15 event will offer hands-on workshops in science, technology, engineering and math. The deadline for registration is Monday, April 9.
The EYH conference is designed to encourage young women to explore professions that require degrees in science, technology, engineering and math. Students choose three of 17 interactive workshops, including veterinary medicine, computer animation, architecture, aviation, medicine and money management.
Each workshop is led by a professional in the field, who will also share what her job involves, how she became interested in the field and what education and skills are required.
The day also includes a workshop for parents and educators addressing the college admission process; “A Day in the Life: High School Society”; the role of social media in high school life; and teen health and fitness.
The conference is presented by Agilent Technologies, Medtronic, Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University. Sponsors include the Healdsburg and Petaluma chapters of American Association of University Women, Girl Scouts of Northern California as well as Google, Seagate, and Symantec.
Space is limited. Scholarships are available. More information and a complete list of workshops including online registration are available at http://eyh-soco.org, 664-2241.
