Feb. 11 “Have a Heart” Bake Sale will help kitties

The Stray Pet Network (SPN) of Sonoma County will hold its first official fundraiser with a “Have a Heart” bake sale on Saturday, Feb. 11, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oliver’s Market.

SPN is small, growing group of animal lovers begun in 2009 by Rosanne Schneider as an internet list group for lost and found pets and to provide suggestions and resources for locating pets.

Still serving as the keeper of a permanent database, the group has expanded into other pet services, including some 20 volunteers involved in animal rescue.

“We also donate what we can to help feed and care for stray/homeless cats,” says organizer Sandy Murphey. “This bake sale is our first effort to raise funds for neutering ferals and prevent unwanted births.”

“Most stray and feral cats were abandoned by owners who couldn’t afford to take care of them anymore,” notes Schneider. “Fearing that their animals will be euthanized at the local shelters, many pet owners release them into the wild thinking that they will survive, but a lot of them don’t survive. Instead they are ravaged by disease, parasites and predators.”

Rancho Cotate Shopping Center, 546 E. Cotati Ave. For more information, to donate, or to volunteer, visit http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/StrayPetNetwork/ or call 827-3616.
